Not sure the closure date is correct. I lived in Sheffield in 1988/89 and I’m sure i went to this cinema up to July 1988 when I saw “Cop” (with James Woods) there

So right terry…. The mulitplexes lack a Magic the old ones had…

What is the use of 12 Screens plus.. when there are not enough good films to show. I have been a Cinema veteran for 4 years and I have not used my Veterans pass yet..

Problem with to-days multiplexes they a refreshment Vendors that also shows films as a side line..
Here endeth to-days rant..

From The British Pathe Library

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bF93jYwNB-4 (The opening of ABC Sheffield 1961)

AND – How anyone in their right mind can assert that today’s multiplexes are better than this I cannot begin to think!

I have so many fond memories of this cinema. I saw life of Brian here on it’s first night. There is nothing like the sound of a packed cinema laughing.
