Twin Theatair - Indianapolis, IN

The Theatair Twin Drive-In opened on May 12, 1950 with Marjorie Main & Percy Kilbride in “Ma & Pa Kettle Go To Town” It had a 1,800 car capacity. By 1955 it was renamed Twin Theatair Drive-In, still accommodating 1,800 cars and operated by Marvin Sandorf. Car capacity given in 1980 was 1,500.

Ad for the Zoo from July 15th, 1956. Another ad on the page claims that it was the world’s largest drive-in, but they are wrong.

The address above is incorrect. The ad is correct.

A more accurate address for this theater is 2866 E Pleasant Run Pkwy N Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46203. This points directly to the entrance road which is still there. In current aerials, you can actually see the foundations of the 3 box offices behind the shopping center. Hoyt Avenue was next to the drive in. There was no entrance from that location. Ramps, screen and concession foundations are all visible.

The Oct. 19, 1957 issue of BoxOffice ran a lengthy story about the Twin adding a shopping center to its grounds.
