Box Twin Cinema

Viewing: Photo | Street View

Originally opened as the Alco Theatre, possibly late-1950’s or in the 1960’s, it was later renamed Douglas Theatre.

Converted into a twin screen theatre it was renamed Box Twin Cinema.

I found two articles in the Douglas Dispatch on the Douglas, the first one was about it closing in Oct. 2005, by then it was already converted to a twin, it was owned at that time by Jim Yates. The article stated that it closed abruptly. The second article was that it reopened in Jan. 2007 and was owned by Mr. Rodriguiz. I can’t find if it is still open. When it was reopened in Jan. it was renamed The Box. Don’t know where the name came from. It was showing second run movies.I tried to call the phone number listed for the theatre but the number has been disconnected, so the theatre is evidently closed again.

It is listed as the Twin Box by Zvents with no movies currently being shown. I would assume that it’s closed.

From a photo of this Cinema the last name that it operated under was The Box Twin Cinema. In large letters above the marquee that is the name listed on the building.
