Opened by the State Theatre Co. of Pierre in 1983 as the New State Theatre. Not to be confused with the original State Theatre in Pierre that was destroyed by fire.
It was later tripled and became the State 1-2-3, worked out well with their address. The theatre shows first run attractions and has a video store in the theatre building.

The State was a twin in this 1985 photo.
One of my earliest movie memories is seeing ET in this theater. At that time until it was renovated, it had 2 screens. I cannot say for sure about prior to 1982, but it definitely had 2 screens when ET was released.
The State was triplexed in the early-1990’s.
