Fort Lauderdale had not seen new theater construction for a decade by the time AMC opened the Coral Ridge 10 in 1988, featuring two THX-certified 500-seat auditoriums (one originally fitted for 70MM), accompanied by eight smaller screens. From 1988 to 1999 (and several years since), the venue hosted the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival.
