A big scene in Robert Altman’s first feature “The Delinquents” was filmed at this drive-in in 1956.
IN 1956 it parked 1000 cars as written above, but it was owned by COMMONWEALTH THEATRES. Kansas City must not have been much of a Drive in town. Only 5 Drive-ins? COMMOMWEALTH owned quite a few screens in the SHOW ME STATE.

That makes sense because Kansas City is larger than Augusta and we had 9 screens not including one in North Augusta and the five or six over in Aiken County,S.C. across the river.
Does anyone know if there was a MAJESTIC THEATRE in Kansas City? reason I ask was there was a short lived TV series “THE POPCORN KID” and it took place in the MAJESTIC. I was wondering if like the creators of WKRP had worked it such a theatre because the stories were so close to theatre life. I am glad i was able to tape a few shows before it got the ax in the mid 80’s.

Boy,Ken you are the first person I have come across that has heard of the “POPCORN KID”. Thanks.
There were about 20 Drive ins in the KC metro area in the late 70s. We still have 3. The Boulevard on the Kansas side and the I-70 in KCMO as well as the Twin in Independence.
On Drive ins.com The Crest is listed as holding 1550 cars.
