Opened in 1931 this Art Deco style cinema had an interior decorated by interior designer Emmanuel Biffra. The original canopy was replaced around 1950.

The Chateau was twinned in 1976 and closed in 1982 and was owned by Confederated Amusements and United Theatres in its later years after showing French movies, when it was briefly known as Espace 9.

After closing, the theater became a church. It was designated a Landmarked building in 2001
