It looks like the Dixie Drive-In was already closed in 1984. Capacity was about 300 cars.

Could also be that it was closed for the season since it was January 1984 that the photo was taken.
Both the Dixie Drive-In and the Rialto were part of the Commonwealth Theatres Chain.
Commonwealth closed both the Drive-In and the Rialto in 1985.
Very nice and clean Drive-in a Wal-Mart must have wanted that Drive-in ground.
It was at E. Race and Marion, not the site of the Walmart.

The above address will map more accurately to the entrance of the drive-in, which is visible on Google Earth using historic aerial imagery.
I Stand corrected, the older pictures at USGS Earth Explorer shows the whole area undeveloped.
Close on both counts. Approx. address for this drive-in was 2504 East Race Avenue. KFC is where the entrance was. Llama runs through where the theatre stood. Look for the curve and that’s about where it was.
