Victoria Theatre

Viewing: Photo | Street View

When it opened on August 1, 1910, Shea’s Victoria Theatre was Canada’s largest theatre for vaudeville. It closed sometime in the 1920’s, outclassed by Shea’s larger and more opulent Hippodrome Theatre which opened in 1914. It saw only sporadic use until the late-1940s when Famous Players acquired and remodeled it. It closed in 1956.

A modern suite hotel occupies the site today.

The Victoria can be partially seen at the left in this photo from 1956 of the Tivoli, probably closed and awaiting demolition. About ten years later, the Tivoli would also be gone.
