The Second Universalist Church in Lowell on Shattuck Street at the corner of Market Street, was built in 1837. After the parish moved out the building served other uses from theaters to dance halls. It was the Savoy Theatre at least as early as 1896 until 1902, then the Casto Theatre from 1903 to 1905, Hathaway’s Theatre from 1906 to 1912 and finally the Playhouse Theatre from 1913 to 1918. The building has since been razed and today the site is parking for the Athenian Corner Restaurant.
