Bon-Air Drive-In

Orangeburg’s Bon-Air Drive-In was larger than the Orangeburg Drive-In, parking 400 cars. The Bon-Air Drive-In was opened July 14, 1949 with Robert Montgomery in “Belle Starr’s Daughter”. It was mainly known for the family films, westerns, and Elvis movies during the 1960’s. Once in awhile a R-rated movie would hit the screen. Bob Saunders kept a clean theatre during his ownership.

September 17,18 and 19 has “101 Dalmatians” playing with another Walt Disney movie "The Parent Trap". These two movies playing in 1970 mean’t they were showing older films, but folks in Orangeburg loved this drive-in. Once the drive-in’s closed (and Orangeburg had five), only the downtown Edisto Theatre and Cinema III served this city not far from Columbia,S.C., with movies.

Nice Disney double feature from the early 1960s.

Made more sense than a lot of double features I have noticed on Drive-ins on CT.

Can anyone come up with an address or at least crossroads?

I THINK it was open from ABOUT 1950-1975 and was owned by Martin Theaters when it closed.

I found one at 2217 Rowesville Rd. out by the airport. It may be the one.

This opened on July 14th, 1949 at the Forks on Edisto Drive (now maps on Google as 426 Neeses Highway.) The drive-in on Rowesville Rd. is the Orangeburg Drive-In. It closed in 1975.
