These theaters are located on the U.S. Army Post, Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia. This post has been around since 1918 and is home to the Army Basic Combat Training & Advanced Individual Training and also Airborne (Parachutintg) School. The 182,00 acre post has about 120,000 active duty soliders.
THIS IS THE FIRST AND AS OF 8/19/10 ONLY U.S. ARMY OR AIR FORCE MILITARY INSTALLATION TO HAVE A PRIVATE MULIPLEX OPERATED ON ONE OF IT’S INSTALLATIONS!
Normally the U.S. Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), Reel Time Theaters operates single screen theaters on it’s installations.
This theater is in Building 1687, cost 2.7 million to build, and was built and is run by Carmike Theaters Inc. which happens to be headquartered right next door in Columbus, Georgia. It opened at 14:30(2:30pm) on December 6, 1996. It is open Monday-Friday 17:45(5:45pm)-21:00(9:00pm), Soliders work during the day. Saturday & Sunday 11:00-22:00(10:00pm). Because it is still "run" by AAFES "PROPER IDENTIFICATION REQUIRED". I would guess "THE NATIONAL ANTHEM" is played before all flicks just like at all other military theaters. The highest priced ticket is $7.50, much cheaper then for first run theaters in town. Any profits that are made go into the Soliders Welfare and Recreation Funds
Does anyone know about Carmike and Military Services, Inc.?
