When asking residents about the Foster City Cinema they will most likely tell you it never existed. They will claim that the only theater in FC was the Mann/GCC Fashion Island 6 Cinems. They have simply forgotten.

The Foster City Cinema was a twin theater located in a shopping center on Shell Boulevard. It was opened January 24, 1979. It was tri-plexed at some point and played second run films until it and the strip mall were torn down in the early-1980’s.

I remember it! It is where I saw The Blues Brothers, and when they had a (3-day?) Charlie Chaplin festival, and something else — I recall it was very hot, no AC, they had to open the doors to cool the place, and one time there was a girl dressed as Peter Pan sitting cross-legged on top of a desk/counter. Maybe a showing of Disney’s Peter Pan was that night? I accidently gave a $20 or a $10 instead of the $2 admission and heard someone whoop; then an honest worker gave me my correct change. Thanks.
