A cannabis factory indeed…. I guess it has kept the wrecking ball at bay for a while. Looks like a wonderful Art Deco cinema, some glimpses of the interior here, but it’s difficult to see the deco for the draw!!

Reported in today’s Daily Mirror that a huge cannabis growing factory had been set up inside. Pictures of the auditorium after police raided it. Totally filled with growing beds and lights. Must be the most bizarre use yet for an old cinema.

The Gala Bingo club, which has been open since 1974, will close on Thursday 7 June 2018. Gala were offered a sum of money for the building which they couldn’t refuse and it is to be sold as a banqueting hall

David… So many thanks for your excellent and colourful description of a beautiful cinema/theatre. Here’s hoping it wasn’t altered beyond recognition, as is the case so often.

I can immagine the live stage shows and the beautiful ‘frilly’ curtain. I truly believe that the use of multiple curtains, as in “The Great Ziegfeld” (Best Film 1936), added charm to the presentation of live shows. Here’s hoping a CT fan is able to locate a photograph.
Incidentally, Bournemouth’s ABC Westover Cinema had a glorious ‘frilly’ curtain to compliment their art deco surroundings!
