The McGuire Theater was originally built to serve McGuire Air Force Base and now serves the entirety of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst after McGuire AFB, Fort Dix, and Naval Air Engineering Station Lakehurst were merged into one installation in 2009.

The theater began renovations in November 2008 and reopened December 6, 2009. The improvements to the interior included fabric walls with cherry wood wainscot bases, concession cabinets, ramps and a refinished stage. Exterior renovations include new walkways, ramps, underground drainage, a standing-seam metal roof and parking spaces. The total cost of the renovations was $2,170,500.
