Originally opened on 16th January 1915 as the 1,000-seat Empire Cinema. It was re-modeled in 1936 in an Art Deco style by noted architectural firm Crick & Furse, who were also working on the new Savoy Cinema just along the road. It re-opened as the Embassy Cinema on 17th December 1937.
