June 1925: the Empire is still a legitimate theatre; cinema conversion is 5 years ahead. Note the ornate façade on Cow Lane with (what looks like) a corner dome and and flag beckoning people to leave St James’s Street and walk up Cow Lane to the theatre’s main entrance.
