Starlight Twin Drive-In

The Newport Family Drive-In was opened on June 3, 1953 with Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis in “The Caddy” & Charlton Heston in “Arrowhead”. At that time it was operated by Harry Minassian and Daytz Theatre Entertainments of Boston, MA. By May 1979 it had been renamed Starlight Twin Drive-In.

A couple of friends and I saw the movie “The Spiral Road” here on August 18, 1962 after not being able to get into the play “The Glass Menagerie” at the Newport Playhouse.

This was actually located in Middletown, RI, the town adjacent to Newport, and not in Newport itself.

The site is now Bay Willows Inn.

There was a Drive-in chapel on sunday mornings(9 am) in 1957, sponsored by tne Maple Avenue Baptist Church.
