Regal Cinema Hammersmith

This photograph was taken of the Regal foyer on opening day. Architect William Glen used his usual team of sub-contractors to carry out these interior works. Clark and Fenn Ltd of Clapham designed and provided all the internal decorations. F.H. Pride Ltd also of Clapham manufactured the four 6ft impressive foyer pendant Art Deco light fittings, designed by their head designer Charles Theobolds. Garton and Thorne Ltd Camden Town forged the decorative metal work, including the front of the circle foyer balcony above the stalls entrance, fitted carpet and seating by H. Lazarus & Son London. The picture above was taken during the day and shows light flooding into the foyer, through the originally designed four pairs of entrance doors each pair with glazed panels above, finishing with five windows at the top. There were two pay boxes set either side of the stalls entrance with the grand arched entrances to the circle situated either end of the foyer, columns set either side are surmounted with two tier fluted uplighters finished in gold. Finally above, murals feature a yacht speeding through choppy seas. At night this whole area must have glowed with diffused light provided by the spectacular crystal pendant light fittings.
