Riverside Plaza Stadium 16

Originally the Riverside Plaza was to be anchored by a Krikorian Theater, which was due to open in 2001. In July of 2003 The Press-Enterprise announced that the lease had been terminated and a new lease was signed with Signature Theatres for a complex to open in 2004. In October of 2004 the Press-Enterprise said Regal Cinemas had purchased Signature Theatres and would finish construction of the theater. In early-December 2004, as the theater was about to open the Signature signs, which were already up, were replaced by Regal signs. The Riverside Stadium 16 finally opened on December 10, 2004.

Wasn’t this theatre originally called Criterion? If so — that should be noted somewhere.

The Riverside Plaza Stadium 16 was one of more than a dozen multiplexes designed for Signature Theatres by the San Francisco architectural firm Uesugi & Associates.
