Television arrived a few years after the introduction of CinemaScope in 1954. The rival Empire/Odeon cinema closed in 1966, leaving the Ritz to carry on without opposition for six years. Village Theatres then decided to open a Goulburn Drive-In, and took over the operation of the Ritz from Hoyts shortly before closing it on 20th December 1972 - the day before their drive-in launched.
