I discovered this title, “America at the Movies” by Margaret Farrand Thorpe, a pre-World War II examination of the movie-going public’s relationship to the film exhibition business and vice-versa, in Seattle’s Central Library back in 2012. A few years later when I wanted to read it, I found the Miami-Dade Public Library system did not have a copy, so I ordered this one online that came all the way from England and was produced in 1946, making it physically 77 years old in 2023.

In June 2022 when I was finished reading it, I donated it to the Coral Gables Art Cinema with a note saying “In my imagination it goes with the collection of film equipment that I have enjoyed gazing at when I have visited the second floor of your theater.”
