There were scores of home-spun theaters all over the world. Even ones started by four teens (here is the quartet that ran the Owl in Grand Rapids). But why the Owl Theatre makes the database is that instead of just using available prints, the Owl deal with a legitimate film exchange and was recognized in the industry as a bonafide place that a film could be booked in Grand Rapids. And unlike most teenage-run operations, this one lasted seven years. Here’s the facility with its 30 seats.
