The Mechanics Institute opened in November 1907. The Mechanics Institute burnt down on 12th February 1925. The area was cleared, and became White City, a venue for all kinds of entertainment, including dancing, gambling, and sporting contests. White City may have been demolished? The site is now a St Jonn Ambulance office.
