Empire Theatre - street scene

The Empire Theatre was owned by the Ebert family, and was sometimes referred to as Ebert’s Theatre. There are advertisements for the Empire Theatre, in old copies of the Butternut Eagle newspaper, from about the 1920’s.

There was also Ebert’s Ice Cream Parlor, at the same location.

When the building burned down, a hardware store was later built on the same location, and this is the building that stands there today, on the corner of Illinois Street, and 2nd Street.

The theatre had a piano, used for playing music for the silent films.
