The Omniplex is situated in the Muirhevnamore area of the town in the Dundalk Retail Park, and is a conversion of the Harvey Norman store that closed there two years earlier. It has nine screens, including a MAXX giant screen, with Dolby Atmos sound systems. It had a soft opening on 11th December 2015 with just four screens running but was fully operational at midnight on 16th December to coincide with the release of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. The multiplex has Candy King and Ben & Jerry’s concessions and was the fourth cinema to be opened by the chain in twelve months, following Waterford, Carlow and Craigavon, and the twenty-third in total. It cost €3.5million to build and reportedly sold 20,000 tickets in the first two weeks, the most successful launch in the chain’s history.
