Auditorium Theatre - Middletown PA (2nd Floor Theatre)

The Auditorium Theatre was the first movie theatre in Middletown, PA and opened for movies in 1907 on the second floor of what came to be dubbed the Auditorium Building on the Southwest corner of W. Emaus Street & S. Union Street in downtown Middletown, Pennsylvania. Today that reconstructed space is occupied by the former Elks Lodge building and has recently been converted to the Tattered Flag Brewery.

The Auditorium Building burned to the ground in the great fire of April 1910 which destroyed the whole surrounding two blocks of downtown Middletown. The fire started in a stove in the farmers market on Emaus Street attached to the rear of the Auditorium Building (which is just visible in the attached photograph). The farmers market was also destroyed. That farmers market space is currently the location of the Elks Theatre in Middletown which was built in 1911 following the great 1910 fire.
