The Teatro Bolivar opened on 15th April 1933 in the heart of the colonial-historical Quito as a movie and live performance theatre. The Teatro Bolivar seats 2,400 in two levels (main floor, balcony and side boxes). It was, during decades, the greatest theatre in Ecuador.
After a decline in the 1980’s and early-1990’s, the theatre was restored and renovated in 1997. On 8th August 1999 a fire destroyed almost 70% of the theatre, but it underwent reconstruction and has reopened.
