More sumptuous exterior brickwork from Detroit! The craftsmanship in the old buildings there is unbelievable.
Gardella Furniture is still at 2306 Gratiot, according to their website, www.gardellafurniture.com I checked out the Google map thoroughly and confirmed that the view was the correct part of Gratiot Street. I didn’t see the building, though. The building at 2310 doesn’t look anything like the photo posted on 6/27/05. I even went up and down the street with no luck. I’m stumped.
The bulding is still there. Use this link and enter 2306 Gratiot Ave Detroit, MI into the search box. Rotate the map 90 degrees clockwise and zoom in. You should see this building which appears to be a tan color with a white mini van parked in front.
Thanks. Something is amiss, though. If you follow the Google arrow down the street to the tan building, you can see it full on. It doesn’t look anything like the 6/27/05 photo.
It looks like the same building as the one in the 2005 photo, only a different color. The number of windows is the same along with the design above the windows. You can even see the sign sticking out in the aerial view which matches the sign in the 2005 photo. It appears that furniture is on the sidewalk in front of the building in the aerial view.
And the address above should be 2306 Gratiot Avenue instead of the address range currently being used.
I found it. On Google it ended up to be 2488 Gratiot. That’s what was confusing me. I was a few blocks down the street. Thanks for clearing that up.
Thats one reason why I don’t trust Google. Sometimes in order to view the correct building, you have to play games with the address. Luckily in this case there was a photo to use for comparison . Without the photo, your at the mercy of the Google arrow and thats not a good place to be. :)
A Wurlitzer theater organ opus 1124 style “B” special was installed in the Gratiot Theater on 8/5/1925. Status: some or all of the organ has been dispersed.
Maybe it’s out in front with the sofas.
The Gratiot Theater is listed in 1930 with 1,074 seats.
