October 29th, 1948 Grand Opening print ad courtesy of the Historic Boynton Beach Facebook page.

Advertised as “For Colored”. Grand Opening was Friday October 29th, 1948.

Per William Glenn Mize: “It was on the west side of S. Military Trail north of Old Boynton Road, near the Mirror Lakes development. It had wooden outdoor benches for migrant farm workers.”

Per Palm Beach Post Staff Writer and Larry Aydlette: “In October 1948, an advertisement appeared in the Post for a Boynton Outdoor Drive-In Theatre. It said the theatre was “for colored,” in the era’s segregationist phraseology. It also said there would be a “reserved section for white”. There was never another mention in the paper, but readers believe it may have been west of the city, and also had wooden benches for migrant workers".
