Complete with a Mariachi band and a Peyote Tribal leader to bless the land, Maya Cinemas held a ribbon cutting ceremony January 10, 2019. Joining five other locations in California, they began showing movies on January 18.
Maya Cinemas founder Moctesuma Esparza speaking to Fox 5 News says the reason for opening here was to bring luxury theaters to an underserved community at an affordable price.
The cinema, designed by Steven J. Ruth of Retail Design Collaborative, offers 14 screens, with the MPX being more than 70 feet wide, Dolby Atmos sound, RealD 3D, and D-Box.
Catering to families, cry rooms, now only a memory of the 1950’s and almost forgotten in modern cinemas, will return in three auditoriums. A full service cantina and game arcade is also available.
Mr. Esparza, also known as the movie producer for the film “Selena” and others, has future plans to add shops and restaurants to the $75 million La Flores development.
