this was a favorite hangout of local kids in the 50’s when i lived on texas avenue. i remember 4 movies being shown on many saturdays. for the most part junk that would make a low end “b” movie look like “gone with the wind”. but i loved them – frankenstein, flesh eating rocks, 50 feet women, space creatures. and boxes of candy for 5 cents. 25 cents to get in; a monumental half buck for grownups. went to see “oklahoma” thinking it was a western. my brother was PISSED. [i burst into song]‘ooook-lahoma where the wind comes sweeping down the plain’[i leave off singing, panting slightly] my biggest disappointment was when “bonnie and clyde” played there [not warren and faye], and i was not old enough to watch. did get to see the car out front with the bullet holes and 2 white “corpses” liberally dowsed with red paint. the actual car? probably not. last film seen there was “easy rider” after an absence of several years. never went back because it was filled with a noisy, rowdy crowd.

I remember as a kid it was open…70s/80s. Then it was a church maybe..?

The exterior of the building is still intact. It appears that it has been used as a warehouse. As of July 7, 2006 there was a sign on the building, “For Lease.”

I drove by there in 2003 when it was something but not an auto shop. Whoever owned or leased it let me look upstairs where the projection booth was. The booth floor was in poor condition with holes & sagging places in it. I found the black 35mm projectors in another room upstairs but don’t remember if they were Simplex, Century, Holmes or something else. The seats & screen downstairs are long gone…

I know that during the late 80s it was operated as an auto shop. No telling what condition its in now but it still stands. The marquee is long gone. I believe its for sale.

I drove by it on a recent visit to HOU..barely recognizeable as a theater. It was very run down, but still stands on the east side of the tracks.

I drove by this loaction yesterday. It is barly visible as a former Theatre. What a shame! Bricks even filled up areas where windows were.
