Gem Theatre

The December 1909 Sanborn shows a ‘Moving Picture Theatre’ operating in the ground floor of a 2-story brick building. There is a small half-moon shaped stage at the rear, and a large wooden awning extending into the street.

The building was constructed by 1885, and it was still operating as a movie theatre in 1914-1915. By 1918 it was occupied by a second-hand furniture store. At some point around 1940, there was an extensive remodel of the façade, and the space has been incorporated into the Chinese restaurant at 127, which has taken over the address.
