1924 Ufa Lichtspiele (Union Theater) Alexanderplatz Berlin

Located in the Mitte district in the east of Berlin city centre. The cinema was originally at the address Alexanderstrasse 46-48, which was renamed Alexanderplatz 5-7 in 1934. The Union Theater was part of the Grand Hotel Alexanderplatz which opened in 1885. The Union Theater was opened on 4th September 1909 with 800-seats and was operated by Deutsche Lichtspiele GmbH. The luxurious interior designed by John Negendank & Co. The general manager was Siegbert Goldschmidt. In 1910 the seating capacity was increased to 1,026. In 1914 it was modernized to the plans of architects Schley & Rothling (also spelt Schleyer & Rothing) and the seating capacity was increased to 1,068 in orchestra and balcony levels. The small balcony extended in slips along each side-wall to the proscenium.

In 1921 it was operated by Universum Film AG, Berlin. In 1924 it was re-named Ufa Lichtspiele Alexanderplatz. In 1928 the named of the company changed to Ufa Theater Betriebs GmbH. In 1931 a Klangfilm sound system was installed.

In 1943 the Ufa Lichtspiele Alexanderplatz was destroyed by Allied bombs during World War II.
