The Fox East Theatre launched May 14, 1971 in the Reading Mall just behind Boscov’s East Department Store. The opening films were “Ryan’s Daughter” and “Mephisto Waltz”. The Fox East Theatre was the county’s first twin screen venue. It was followed that year by the Fox Midtown Twin Theatre at 9th Street at Penn Street.

In November of 1973, the Fox East Theatre became a four-plex. The Fox Midtown Twin Theatre would close. And in 2019, the Wyomissing PA-based Fox Circuit decided to put its expansion and upgrade money toward its Fox Berkshire complete with four more screens, recliner seating, a bar, and a full kitchen.

The Fox East Theatre closed on September 19, 2019 after more than 48 years of operation and with Boscov’s East still its neighbor. The location closed with “It 2”, “The Art of Racing in the Rain”, “Overcomer” and “The Peanut Butter Falcon”.
