Cinerama Tent Cinema

Located in the city centre at the north side of the Heiligengeistfeld (Field of the Holy Spirit) near Feldstrasse in the district of St. Pauli. This was the first Cinerama tent installation in Germany and was part of the IGA International Horticultural Exhibition which took place from 26th April 1963 to 13th October 1963.

The Cinerama Tent Cinema opened on 3rd May 1963. It was operated by the Deutsche Cinerama GmbH. The Cinerama Tent Cinema was equipped with a 3-strip Cinerama/Cinemiracle projector system. The screen size was 29x11 meters. The Cinemiracle production “Windjammer - The Voyage of the Christian Radich” ran twice a day. An addition to the performance was a 50 minutes show, which included excerpts from the first Cinerama film “This is Cinerama”.
