Clinton R. Bailey established the first drive-in theatre in Montague when he launched the Hill Top Drive-In. It opened July 22, 1951 with Marjorie Main & Percy Kilbride in “Ma and Pa Kettle Back on the Farm”. By 1952 it was operated by Marvin London & Jerry Stout. By 1953 it was operated by McNeu & Garner. Prior to the 1955 season, it was sold to new interests and purportedly it was destroyed by a storm the very next day. It was not reopened.

I think I’ve found it.

TX-175 and Veretto Road, Montague, TX

If the drive-in was located north of the town on a hilltop, there is a property just north of the intersection on the east side of the road that fits that description.

It is private property today, but it’s general shape and ramps (albeit somewhat large ramps) sure make it look like it once was a drive-in.
