Opera House

The 1921 Sanborn shows a large tin-clad wooden structure labeled ‘Opera Ho. & Motion Pictures’.

This location was an empty lot on the 1907 map. Notes on that map on the location of the Lyric Theatre mention an opera house to be built, and the empty lot may have been chosen rather than an alteration/replacement of the existing structure. The Opera House had opened by 1914 and was listed in the 1914-1915 edition of American Motion Picture Directory.

This was a very wide building of one story, and the interior is noted as having metal walls and ceiling. A small wooden awning hung over the entrance.

The 1926 and 1950 maps are not available online, but for many years this site has been a parking lot.
