The very sad end for the Sydney Regent sitting forlorn and unloved. It looked this way for a number of years before being demolished in 1990.
I think I remember The Sound of Music being the last show to play at this theatre
What a sad loss this was and another example of the cultural vandalism committed by corrupt and useless officials acting in the interests of business. A familiar haunt in the 70’s for me as a kid. “Chariots of the Gods” sticks in my mind.
After Hoyts opened their seven screen Entertainment Centre 16th December 1976 on the Trocadero site next to the Regent, they began the process of terminating leases and selling their other city venues. They had already vacated the Regent on 11th February 1976. Thereafter it was used by others, mainly for live productions (and some film) - until closure.
