Lawn Drive-In

The Lawn Drive-In opened on May 4, 1953, according to an advertisement and news story in the previous day’s Abilene Reporter-News. It said the owners were “Sen. Harley Sadler of Abilene and H. R. Poor of Lawn”.

The drive-in started with room for 200 cars with room for expansion. The program for its first night was Marjorie Maine & Percy Kilbride in “Ma and Pa Kettle on Vacation” plus short subjects. The owners expected to hold a formal opening in June.

A 1966 aerial photo showed a small drive-in on the northeast side of Lawn. It was gone by 1983. A cluster of small buildings occupies the site today.
