The Southland Theatre opened its doors on December 2, 1926, and closed in late-1930.
The Southland Theatre was notable for James H. Shanks, a local African-American man, who robbed the Southland Theatre months before its closure. He was sentenced two years behind bars after pleaded guilty for attempted robbery on March 10, 1931.
