Howard Henry, of the Gateway Hotel added the Gateway Theatre to his hotel, opening on July 1, 1948 with Jeanette MacDonald in “Three Daring Daughters”. He previously bought the Arcade Theatre from Glenn Jensen, installing him as manager of the new Gateway Theatre, while closing the Arcade Theatre. The Bottineau Courant noted it had a crying room and the sound system was the same type as used in the Roxy Theatre, New York, City.

The first CinemaScope movie, “The Robe”, played here April 2 to 9, 1954.

The hotel, later renamed the Gateway Inn, was destroyed by fire April 4, 1980, with some damage to the theatre. On September 10, 1980, the Inn and theatre were demolished.

In March 1982 the Gateway Motel opened on the site.
