Located in the north Yorkshire seaside resort of Scarborough on Vernon Place, a narrow alley off Vernon Road. The towns Public Library stands at 1 Vernon Road and the Picture House was part of the Library building which was built as the Oddfellows Hall in 1853. Later it became a Mechanics Instutute.

The Picture House was opened in 1912 by Quentin McPherson Gibson, a former female impersonator in the music halls, who also operated the Picturedrome (It has its own page on Cinema Treasures). The Picture House was a short lived venture as it was closed during World War I around 1914/1915.

The Library and Scarborough Information Centre still operate in 2023.
