Triangle Hall

Located in the inner city district of Clifton, this was a conversion of a roller skating rink which had opened in 1909 at the corner of Queens Road and Queen’s Avenue. It became the Triangle Picture Hall on 1st December 1913. Designed by Bristol based architect William Henry Watkins, it had a decorative entrance in white stone which was topped by a small stone ball. Originally operated by Emmanuel Harris, it was taken over by the Associated British Cinemas(ABC) chain in August 1929 and renamed Triangle Hall. It was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. The cinema had a cafe attached.

It was destroyed by German bombs on 24th November 1940. The corner facade and outer walls were all that survived. It was still listed in the Kine Yearbook 1944 edition as ‘Temporary Closed’. It was not to be, and was eventually demolished and a University building was built on the site.
