Dreamland Theatre

This theatre opened sometime before the Spring of 1908 in the Syndicate Block, a tall two-story brick commercial block with 7 storefronts in a 2-2-3 arrangement proceeding from the eastern corner. It was built sometime between 1898 and 1904, when the map shows a grocery in the future location of the theatre.

The Dreamland Theatre was located in the eastern storefront of the ‘3’ section, and was run by a partnership between a Mr. Sullivan and a Mr. Collins. For a small town, this would have been a decent early cinema, and it remained in operation at least through 1911. By 1917, it was closed, replaced by a store selling books & stationery.

At some point, likely after World War II, this building was demolished, and replaced by a drab collection of unattractive one story buildings. There was a restaurant on this site, but it appears to have closed.

Thanks to Joe Vogel for the name and some information.
