In 1975 the Trail Drive-In had a capacity for 701 cars.
A movie ad from 1959 for the Trail Drive In in Lubbock.
IT was owned by P.E. Smith in 1956 according to the 1956 motion picture Almanac. He owned the SUNSET Drive in too.
Looks like there are several spots on Littlefield Hwy that could have contained a drive-in, due to the scars on the ground. Just a few blocks from each other too….
Odd the adverts don’t list any kind of address or directions.

P.E. Smith, who owned the Trail, the Sunset, and the Tech Theater (there were probably more in the Smith Theaters chain), was later the governor of Texas—Preston Smith. He got his start as a Tech student in the 1930s working for local theaters.
Approx. address for this drive-in was 3391 Clovis Road.
