Grandview Drive-In

The Grandview Drive-In had a ‘soft’ opening on April 21, 1950 with June Haver in “Oh, You Beautiful Doll”. The grand opening was on May 27, 1950 with William Holden in “Streets of Laredo” & Robert Cummings in “Free for All” This drive-in has a capacity of 600 cars, had one screen and was still open for business until it was closed in the Fall of 2006. It was demolished in March 2009.

Sorry to say it is true, We are still fighting to save the screen tower for relocation, sadly our town officials do not care, The Supervisor from the Town of Brant has been working with us for a backup plan to relocate it to Brant, however none of us expected demolition now. Afterall, the sale of the property to walmart may Never even happen, and now the owner may end up with an empty lot, while WE were intrested in purchasing it AS-IS if the walmart sale failed…

The loser here?

The Town of Evans/Angola and the children who have just been robbed of one more bit of our heritage and Family activities…

This is a SAD day… We are watching America slip away a little bit here and a little bit there while everyone looks the other way. :(

Again, the ugly face of politics has dominated over classic Americana and nostalgia. This is why I am as anti-political as they come. Despite being born in 1969, I live for the past as opposed to today’s ever-so-screwed up society, especially in terms of television, music, and of course, drive-in theaters.

I’ll be hoping and praying that the relocation to Brant goes through.

Opened on 21/4/1950 with “Oh you beautiful doll”. Mural of comedy and tragedy masks on the back of a tilted screen.

Was there a building under the screen?

A more accurate address for this theater is 860 Lake St, Angola, NY 14006. This points to the entrance road. Ramps, screen foundation and concession foundation are still visible.

Please update.
