112 Drive-In

The 112 Drive-In was opened on June 27, 1980 with Charles Martin Smith in “Herbie Goes Bananas” & Angela Lansbury in “Bedknobs and Broomsticks”. It was a 420 car single screen ozoner. It was open from March thru mid November. During the summer it was open Thursday thru Sunday other times Friday thru Sunday. It had both FM sound and the conventional drive-in speakers. At one time they had ponies for the children to ride before shows and during intermission. Admission was $6.00 a carload. It was closed on August 27, 2022 with Kevin Bacon in “Footloose” & John Travolta in “Grease”.

I’m Afraid That The 112 I Believe Didn’t Open Until The 1970s. It Didn’t Appear In Either The 1961, 1968, Or 1971 Newspaper Listings…

According to a great retrospective by NWA Alive with the 112 owners (you can find the video on Facebook), the 112 opened in 1980.

Hmm… Since The 112 Opened In 1980, This Can Be A Rare Result.

To provide a source for dallasmovietheaters' accurate note, the Fayetteville Flyer reported that the 112’s final night would be Aug. 27, showing Footloose and Grease.

The Flyer said that an attorney for the buyers “told the city council back in the spring that the new owners plan to include a drive-in theater somewhere on the property.” There’s always hope.

I was fortunate to have visited the 112 in 2018 on a cross-country road trip. So sad to see another drive-in go fall victim to so-called “progress”, but it was great how it went out with a big bang as they had a sellout crowd for its farewell performance last night. Of course, I wish I could have been there.

The actual opening date is June 27, 1980 with Walt Disney’s “Herbie Goes Bananas” and the reissue of “Bedknobs And Broomsticks”. Prior to its grand opening, it had a VIP night a day prior.
