The Totem opened in 1976 as a triplex which was originally part of the Wometco chain. It was later taken over by Act III Theatres. In 2000, the theater was increased to eight screens and became part of the Regal Cinemas chain.

The theater showed a mix of first-run, art, and foreign features. Today it operates as a bargain movie theatre.
