Sunstar Seminole Cinema 8

The Seminole Cinema opened in 1986 and has gone through several ownerships in recent years, including AMC Theatres. It was operated by locally owned by Touchstar Cinemas and then Sunstar Cinemas, even more dedicated to providing the best in customer care.

The Seminole Cinema 8 ran first-run attractions at reduced prices and boasted the best selection in concessions at the lowest prices.

Each auditorium had a different pattern in design and featured stereo sound. Seats were staggered for great sight lines. Neon highlighted the large lobby.

The Seminole Cinema 8 was closed in February 2015 and demolished in April 2015.

There was also a Seminole 2 theatre in the mall which has its own page on Cinema Treasures.

Does anybody know what became of the twin screen in the mall? I believed it closed down in the early 90’s but I may be mistaken. I remember a lot of people were upset when it closed. I remember the last movie that played there was “The Firm. Is it still vacant or did the mall turn it into something else?

The Seminole 8 closed in February 2015, and the building was demolished in April as part of a redevelopment of the Seminole Mall into an open-air shopping center. A new 12-screen movie theater is planned, according to a news article.

The old Seminole 2 (AMC) was used in the filming of the AMC Midnight Movie Express trailer along with an auditorium at St Pete High School.

AMC sold off Seminole 8 to Entertainment Film Works sometime between July and November of 2001.

I’m betting that SunStar bought this theater from EFW around 2002
